Rugby World Cup 2019

It was a great honour to be asked to design the Player of the Match trophy for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Cicala Design worked closely with a great team from Octagon, Directive Number 7 and Exposure. The trophy we developed, from a concept by Professor Jun Mutani, was striking and innovative in it's engraving of a match play-by-play commentary in real time during each one of the competition's 48 matches. It also captured the beauty and spirit of host nation Japan, with a shape based on Mt Fujiyama and a folded shape inspired by the traditional Japanese art of origami. This award deserves an award!
